Description
L&C GP38AC #2829, a former Southern Railway unit, leads five other motors bringing a cut of cars from Circle S in the background. They had pushed the empties down the main line to bring another cut of loads in. The 2829 was built for the Southern Railway in the early 1970s. It wore a basic black paint scheme and retained her high short hood until being rebuilt last year by the parent owner of the L&C, the Gulf & Ohio Railways, at their shops in Knoxville, TN.
This shot is neat to me because it's the first time I have caught six big engines on the same train on the L&C since the old days when they used smaller EMD end cabs. It's also the first time I have shot more than three big units in L&C paint on the same train as the railroad went through a painting fit last year.
From a railroad standpoint, this is the first time they have had a CSX unit grain train for Circle S. previously, all grain trains had come from Norfolk Southern.
