A South Carolina Central Railroad crew is working their rail yard in Floyd, South Carolina in this shot I made in 2013.
South Carolina Central (SCRF) 2033 is a GP38-2 which was built by EMD for the Florida East Coast as FEC 505 in 1078. It was then transferred to the Chicago, Fort Wayne and Eastern before being sent to the South Carolina Central andd eventually repainted snd renumbered.
The South Carolina Central Railroad (reporting mark SCRF) is a class III railroad that operates 42 miles (68 km) of former CSX Transportation trackage in South Carolina. Originally a RailTex subsidiary upon its start in 1987, the railroad passed to RailAmerica following their acquisition of RailTex in 2000 and passed to the Genesee & Wyoming Railroad upon its acquisition of RailAmerica. Primary commodities include steel, chemicals, trash, and plastics, amounting to about 30,000 carloads in 2008.
The South Carolina Central Railroad is currently a property of shortline railroad holding company Genesee & Wyoming Inc. Genesee & Wyoming currently owns 120 railroads in six countries and emplyees.
