Description
While the building in the background is now a California Dreaming, it was once Columbia, SC's Union Station for the Southern Railway and Atlantic Coast Line. And the train passing the station is, of sorts, a passenger train. It's actually one of two trains that travels America bringing the Ringling Bros. and Barnum & Bailey Circus to towns and cities. The first part of the train houses the animals followed by the performers and crews. At the tail end of the train is the equipment for the circus. The train stretches for about a mile behind the power. Today, it's a Norfolk Southern train using CSX power. At the height of the passenger train era, I would have been standing on railroad tracks under a shed... and probably about to be run over.

Love this great capture as well! I really like the architecture of the building! The train seems to be very long! I suppose they use large coliseums and not tents now a days. I may be wrong though, my curiosity is up now, I will have to research! :D f/love!!

Thank you for your comment, Debbie. The train is about a mile long in all and houses virtually everything for the circus. And you're right about the Coliseums being used. The one in Columbia is owned by the university for their men's basketball team. In other cities, they use the NBA coliseums.
