Description
My friend and I went to the public overlook at Charlotte Douglas Internation Airport late last year and this odd plane showed up. We dubbed it the "Ghost Plane." Once I got home, I looked around the internet for more information. It's a Boeing 767 built in 1984.
The net search revealed a lot of rumor and speculation about the plane. Some said it was for prisoner transfers. It doesn't look like the plane Tommy Lee Jones flew around in with Wesley Snipes and the lack of windows cast doubt on that being true.
I decided to troll people on Facebook by suggesting this plane is how the shadow government moves the aliens around the country. It was suggested that maybe I watched too much "X Files. But as any fan of that show can tell you, they actually use trains for that.
It turns out there is a meaning behind the term "ghost plane." It refers to an aircraft in flight which, due to an event which has incapacitated the crew (usually uncontrolled decompression), flies on its last input heading on autopilot until it runs out of fuel and crashes. One such flight was in 1999 with golfer Payne Steart's plane Learjet crashed in Aberdeen, South Dakota.
As too often the case, it turns out this is a cargo plane owned by Cargo Aircraft Management. Unless that's just what they want you to belive.
